Glossary
Definitions of terms used throughout Pluraprint.
A quick reference for terms you’ll see across Pluraprint and this documentation.
Agent
The on-site software connection between Pluraprint and the printers at a site. One agent can manage multiple printers. See Agents.
API Key
A credential that lets external systems (scripts, integrations) interact with Pluraprint without a user signing in. See API Keys.
Approval / Approver
A step on a job’s requirements checklist where a person with the right role or permission must review and approve a job before it can queue. Some rules require multiple approvals in sequence (“multi-stage approval”). See Approving Print Jobs.
Credential (PIN / Card)
A PIN code or ID card linked to a user’s account, used to identify that person at a station without signing in with a username and password. See Managing Users.
Dispatch
The process by which a queued job that has satisfied its requirements is matched to a compatible, available printer at its site and sent to print.
Dispatch Policy
Organization-wide settings that control how dispatch behaves, for example, how jobs are matched to printers. Configured by administrators under Administration > Dispatch Policies.
Group By (Quota)
An optional setting on a quota that splits its usage counter into separate totals per material type, color, or printer model, instead of one combined total. See Setting Usage Quotas.
Material (Type / Brand / Color / Variant)
Pluraprint’s shared library of filaments and resins. A type is the kind of material (PLA, PETG, resin, etc.), a brand is the manufacturer, a color is a named color, and a variant combines type + brand + color into something that can be loaded into a printer’s slot. See Materials.
Printer
A physical 3D printer registered in Pluraprint, connected via an agent. See Adding a Printer.
Print Job
A request to print a specific sliced file. Jobs move through a lifecycle (Draft → Processing → Awaiting Approval → Queued → Printing → Completed, or Failed/Rejected/Cancelled along the way), gated by their requirements checklist. See Submitting a Print Job.
Quota
A usage limit that caps how much of something (material, print time, cost, job count, or concurrent jobs) a user, role, station, printer model, or your whole organization can use within a time window. See Setting Usage Quotas.
Reprint
A new print job created from a past completed, failed, or cancelled job, reusing its file and material settings. A reprint goes through approval again like any new job. See Reprinting a Job.
Requirements Checklist
The list of conditions a print job must satisfy before it can queue, generated by combining the requirements from every rule that applies to that job. Each item is shown as ✅ Satisfied, 🟡 Pending, or 🔴 Blocking. See Rules & Quotas Overview.
Role
A named set of permissions that can be assigned to one or more users. Pluraprint ships with default roles: Admin, Staff, Member, and Guest, which can be customized or supplemented with your own. See Roles & Permissions.
Rule
An administrator-defined policy with a condition (“when does this apply?”) and one or more requirements (“what must be true?”). Every enabled rule whose condition matches a job contributes its requirements to that job’s checklist. See Building Rules.
Site
A physical/network grouping of printers and agents: a lab, building, or facility. Sites exist so each agent manages the printers on its own network. Printers, agents, and stations belong to one site; rules and quotas can be scoped to a site or apply globally. A site is not a tenant or an access-control boundary. See Sites.
Single Sign-On (SSO)
Signing in to Pluraprint using your organization’s existing identity provider (via OIDC or SAML), instead of a separate Pluraprint username and password. See Single Sign-On.
Station
A shared kiosk screen near your printers where people can identify themselves and submit, approve, or manage print jobs without using the full dashboard. See Stations Overview.
Station Template
A reusable definition of what a station can do, which capabilities are enabled, and which of those require the user to identify themselves first. See Setting Up a Station.
Subject (Quota)
Who or what a quota tracks usage for: an individual user, everyone with a given role, a printer model, or your whole organization (“global”). See Setting Usage Quotas.
