What is job intake?
Job intake is the structured process by which a 3D print request enters an operation. It validates the file and collects the context needed before the job can queue.

Why intake deserves attention
Many problems are cheaper to catch at intake than later. An unsupported file, a job with no owner, or a missing deadline may take a short conversation at submission and much longer to resolve after the work is queued.
Structured intake means the request cannot be created without the information that makes it actionable.
What good intake collects
- The model file, validated for format and basic printability
- Requester identity, resolved against the organisation’s directory
- Purpose, and the project, course, department, or cost centre it belongs to
- Material preference and any tolerance or finish requirement
- Deadline, if there is a real one
The alternative, and what it costs
Email attachments, shared drives, and messaging apps don’t enforce a consistent set of fields. Every job arrives differently, and the operator has to supply the missing validation by hand.
